There are several types of accounting careers:

• Public Accountants: Public accountants provide their services on a one-to-one basis to clients, whether they're a business or individual. These accountants may prepare taxes, handle income functions, and help to keep things on budget. Most public accountants are certified public accountants, a distinction that shows they have passed an examination in their state.

  Management Accountants:
  These accountants work for corporations or businesses. They must report and analyze financial data for their business or corporation in strict accordance with Federal regulations.

Some accounting professions only require an associate’s degree, while others like auditing or public accounting usually require a bachelor’s degree.

The median earnings for accountants is around $30,000 a year, but this number varies depending on the type of accounting that is being done.
