Resume Writing Tips

AVOID the common mistakes used in creating an Effective Resume by using these resume writing tips .

Top Resume Writing Tips!

  • Spelling Errors: This is the #1 mistake on resumes and one of the easiest to avoid. Use spell check or have someone double-check your resume for you. You don't want an employer getting the wrong impression.
  • Contact Information: Potential employers need to contact you for the Interview so this information must be correct. Always verify that your contact information (phone, email, & address) is correct!
  • Ones Size Fits All: Employers recognize a "one size fits all" resume and 9 times out of 10 will trash it. Write a resume specifically for the position for which you are applying and address why you fit the position for their organization.
  • Stating Salary Requirements: Unless specifically asked for in the job announcement do not include salary requirements. This could turn some employers away from your resume.
  • Too Many Jobs: Listing too many jobs in a short period of time is a red flag to employers. If there is a legitimate reason than state it in your resume cover letter . Otherwise, you may want to use a functional resume format.
